Yet another awe inspiring title from yours truly. I was stressing about teaching reading strategies and I did get some good pre-reading strategies from my AP who used to teach reading before she crossed over to the dark side of administration. Bless them, because I have less than no desire to get into administration. I'd rather just teach thank you very much.
Anyway as I was driving home from school I remembered that I had a binder full of active reading strategies that I learned during training last year. Which is where my brilliant title comes from... Duh! Why not use one of them? Hello! McFly! Anyone home? And to think I'm a licensed teacher to boot!
So what I came up with was to combine what I got from my AP with what I had in my binder. I'm going to use headlines from articles in the Las Vegas Review Journal and The Wall Street Journal, with the writings of blogs that I follow on a regular basis.
Buckhorn Road wrote about how Astroturf is not all it's cracked up to be, especially when it's hot outside.
Jammie Wearing Fool has an update on the Roman Polanski scandal.
And finally The Other McCain discusses his 'appearance' on Meet The Press. And when did become OK to not have proof to back up charges of racism in this country anyway?

All Slaughters are not equal... by The Vegas Art Guy
Michael Yon, who is currently covering the real war in Iraq has reported on the true face of the enemy in Iraq. Be warned, the photos are brutal to look at, so if you have a tender stomach scroll past them. Long story short, AQI is not above depopulating villages that don't subscribe to their brand of Islam. Recently US and Iraqi soldiers happened across what was the village of al Hamira. The village was abandoned with the exception of booby trapped roads, animals and houses. The question on every one's mind "Where are the villagers?" was answered soon enough in a nearby palm grove where the smell of dead bodies were overwhelming.
At last report the total body count in the palm grove was 14. What has made many online very angry is the lack of reporting on this story by the MSM. While every coalition soldier's death is reported along with every mistake, abuse and other blunder by the MSM with huge headlines and lead story status, the silence regarding the barbarity of Al Queda and their ilk is staggering, but not surprising. Why would the media, who hate Bush with a passion, do anything to help him out? Why would they reverse themselves on their mantra of "Iraq is a failure", "Cut & Run", or any other idiocy? Because that would mean admitting they were wrong about many things. The nature of the enemy in Iraq, the real story about Iraq, President Bush and a great many things regarding the war on terror.
Their failure to report on stories like this is why more and more people are using the new media to get their news, the old guard is to interesting in pushing politics to accurately report on what's really happening in Iraq and around the world to be trusted, and their declining circulation and viewership is a direct result of this poor journalism.

A clear double standard
On wetcanvas.com there was a discussion about the Christophobia label and if it applies in the USA. Judging from stories like this, I'd say there is a clear double standard at work in this country regarding the first amendment.

In short, it's OK to indoctrinate kids into becoming muslims in public schools as long as you don't do it with Christianity. I'm sure this was done under the banner of multiculturalism but that's a load of horsepucky. There are tons of ways to teach Islam without forcing them to become Muslims for three weeks. I mean what if they did this with Christians? The ACLU etc would be all over this like white on rice. But hey it's OK if it's Islam... What did I miss? Where is the MSM screaming about the first amendment?
Then there is this gem also from California...

Parents pay for an ad that mentions God and the school takes the word God out. I'd be willing to be had it been Allah, or Goddess etc., no problem...
The message is clear all faiths but Christianity are welcome in the public square. Ever wonder why Christians get so worked up? This is why...
